Description
Wear Tyne Derby
This early FA Cup match between AFC Sunderland and Newcastle West End is thought to be the first competitive match between Sunderland and Newcastle, and as such the first Wear/Tyne Derby two years prior to the football league being formed in 1888.
Played at Sunderland’s home ground, ironically named ‘Newcastle Road’, Sunderland won 2-1 after extra time.
This poster
To my knowledge no posters from this fixture exist and so this is an imagining of what one would have looked like.
It is a completely original design based on research of contemporary football posters, the graphical style of the time and the information we have available about the fixture.
The poster is designed by me 100% from scratch in high resolution, none of it has been cut and pasted from elsewhere which would compromise it’s quality.
It is A2 in size and printed locally (in Northumberland) on high quality satin paper.
For charity
Every penny of the profits made from these posters will go to my Great North Run fundraising in aid of Teardrop, a support group for families who have experienced the death of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.
